The Hell Hole
For a history of the Hell Hole (the Golden Swan) and a watercolour of that "back room" by Charles Demuth where Dorothy Day hung out with Eugene O'Neill and the Hudson Dusters "google" : The Bowery Boys/The Hell Hole. It was there that Louis Holladay took poison while sitting between Dorothy and Demuth and died in Dorothy's arms.

Two of the Hell Hole's frequent visitors whom Dorothy Day knew well, Eugene O'Neill and Charles Demuth, are pictured in a photo, lounging on the beach in Provincetown, MA in 1916, which can be seen on the web site, Gay Influence, in the article on Charles Demuth. RS
